The Post-Hair Transplant Shock Loss Process

What Is Shock Loss?

Shock loss refers to the temporary shedding of transplanted hair and, in some cases, existing hair following a hair transplant. It typically begins 2–8 weeks after the procedure and subsides within a few weeks.

Why Does It Happen?

Transplanted hair follicles may enter a resting phase as they adapt to the new blood supply. This causes the hair strands to fall out while the follicle remains alive.

Should You Be Concerned?

Shock loss is a natural part of the hair transplant process. Over time, new, healthy hair will grow in place of the shed strands. It is recommended to continue follow-up visits with your doctor.
